Narrow-leaved lavender 'Hidcote'
Lavandula angustifolia 'Hidcote'
Narrow-leaved lavender is native to Mediterranean areas, making it reminiscent of the purple fields of Provence warmed by the midday sun. Cultivated in Poland as well, lavender has earned many folk names, such as fragrant lavender, cornflower or lilac. The species, as one of its names suggests, is extremely fragrant, with its scent lingering in the air especially during the flowering months of July and August. Lavender, which likes permeable and easily warmed soil and shuns harsh winters, concentrates all its essence in its flowers. The dried flowers yield a medicinal, aromatic essential oil, used in medicine and cosmetics. After flowering, the inflorescences should be pruned.
