Depending on the species, they can be characterized by evergreen or seasonal foliage. The flowers of the large-flowered azalea of the 'Fireball' variety are a beautiful dark orange color and appear in May. They grow most magnificently in shady or semi-shaded places in humus, permeable, slightly acidic soil (pH 4-5,5). Plants shed their leaves for the winter.
